SUGGESTED WALKS

Our service covers the spectacular South West Coast Path between Polperro via Plymouth and Salcombe to Dartmouth, Torbay and on to East Devon's Jurassic Coast.

We also offer Coast & Moor walks which combine sections of the coast path with trails along the Tamar, Plym, Erme or Dart Valleys, with curated hikes along Western or Southern Dartmoor.

We can tailor an itinerary to suit your requirements but find stays of between 4 and 10 nights are most popular. To follow are some outline examples.

SOUTH WEST COAST PATH

Plymouth to Dartmouth

The section around South Hams combines stunning seascapes, wooded estuaries and rolling hills, along with the maritime heritage of several historic ports. The itinerary below covers the full South Devon section and involves 6 days walking. If you want, you can do shorter or longer daily distances, and/or have rest days - to suit your itinerary .

Day 1 Arrive at your hotel in Plymouth, just a few minutes from the waterfront on Plymouth Hoe. Take some time to explore the sites on the historic Hoe and Barbican

Day 2 Plymouth - Wembury 7 miles 11 km. Cross the Plym by ferry and walk to Wembury. Easy terrain. Stay overnight in a comfortable B&B in Wembury.

Day 3 Wembury - Erme Estuary 10.5 miles 17km. Easy then moderate terrain. Cross the Yealm by ferry, enjoy fine coastal walking and then wade across the Erme at low tide to stay in a B&B in Kingston. If the tide's in, overnight in Holbeton's B&B.

Day 4 Erme Estuary - Hope Cove 10 miles 16 km. Moderate then easy terrain. Visit the iconic Burgh Island then cross the Avon Estuary en-route to your hotel in Hope Cove.

Day 5 Hope Cove - Salcombe 8 miles 13 km. Moderate terrain and breath-taking views. Overnight in a well-appointed guest house or pub in this bustling holiday town.

Day 6 Salcombe - Beesands 11.5 miles 18.5 km. Starts with the ferry to East Portlemouth, then quite a long section around Devon's most southerly headlands; moderate terrain. Overnight pub hotel in or near Beesands.

Day 7 Beesands - Dartmouth 11.5 miles 18.5km. Easy then moderate terrain mixing villages with beautiful coastline. Overnight in a hand-picked Dartmouth guest house, pub or small hotel.

Day 8  Depart Dartmouth.

SOUTH DEVON COAST & MOOR

Plymouth to Buckfastleigh combining coastal, country and moorland trails

​

Starting in Plymouth, you walk the South West Coast Path to Mothecombe, before picking up the Erme Plym Trail via Holbeton, and on to Ivybridge, gateway to the Dartmoor National Park. You'll enjoy two further days on Dartmoor's southern slopes.

 

Day 1  Arrive and overnight BB in Plymouth.

Day 2  Morning free in Plymouth. Ferry from Barbican to Mount Batten for walk to Wembury (South West Coast Path) for overnight BB in a welcoming guesthouse. 7 miles, 11km. Easy terrain.

Day 3 Wembury to Mothecombe (South West Coast Path). 10.6 miles, 17km. Easy then moderate terrain. Overnight BB in nearby Holbeton or Yealmpton with transfer included.

Day 4  Holbeton to Ivybridge for overnight BB at a friendly pub hotel. (Erme Plym Trail). 6 miles, 9.5 km. Easy terrain with a mix of quiet lanes , rural footpaths and riverside walks. Optional extra walk around Henlake Down or Longtimber Woods.

Day 5 Ivybridge to South Brent - moorland trail walking and quiet lanes. 7 miles, 11km. Climbing either Western or Ugborough Beacon would add 1 km to this section. Moderate terrain. Overnight BB at small hotel in South Brent.

Day 6 South Brent to Buckfastleigh via Avon Reservoir. Quiet lanes, rural footpaths and moorland trails. 8.5 miles, 13.5 km. Moderate terrain. Overnight BB in boutique hotel.

DARTMOOR WEST DEVON WAY
The re-opening of the train line from Exeter to Okehampton means walkers can enjoy the awesome beauty of Dartmoor with public transport at both ends

This is a delightful hike around the Western flank of Dartmoor, offering a combination of paths, tracks, lanes and moorland walking. Starting in historic Okehampton and ending on Plymouth Hoe, walkers can enjoy time at the dramatic Lydford Gorge, the historic market town of Tavistock, spectacular moorland and river valley walking passing several moorland villages before arriving in Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City.

Day 1 Arrive and overnight BB in historic Okehampton on the northern edge of Dartmoor. Nearest railway station is Okehampton (change at Exeter). 

Day 2 Walk the West Devon Way beside the West Okement River via Meldon and Sourton Tor to Lydford for overnight BB. 9.5 miles/ 15.2 km.

Day 3 Check out Lydford Castle and the dramatic Lydford Gorge before heading to Mary Tavy and Harford Bridge to Tavistock for overnight BB. 9.2 miles/ 14.7 km. 

Day 4 Follow the River Tavy west from Abbey Bridge, out past the school to Walreddon, skirting the Tavy and Walkham Valleys to arrive at Yelverton for overnight BB. 7 miles/ 11.2 km.

Day 5 Walk past the moorland villages of Clearbrook and Bickleigh, then down the Plym Valley Trail, on through the Saltram Estate, across Laira Bridge to follow the Coast Path to Plymouth Hoe.12.4 miles/ 19.8 km. Overnight BB Plymouth Hoe.

SOUTH HAMS WAY
​New for 2026, this is a spectacular 100 mile circular walk through four different but beautiful Devon landscapes including coast path, AONB, Dartmoor National Park and 5 beautiful estuaries.

Day 1  Arrive and overnight Totnes.

Day 2  Walk beside the river Dart to the Dartington Estate and on through Staverton to Buckfaslteigh for overnight BB. 7.1 miles/11.4 km. Easy then moderate terrain.

Day 3 Walk through quiet lanes and open moorland past the Avon reservoir and down the valley to South Brent for overnight BB.  8.9 miles/14.25 km. Easy then moderate terrain. 

Day 4   Walk quiet lanes and open moorland passing Ugborough Beacon to Ivybridge for overnight BB 7.1 miles/11.4 km. Easy then moderate terrain.

Day 5 Walk a mix of rural footpaths, quiet lanes and riverside trails via Ermington and Yealmpton to Newton and Noss for overnight BB. 11.9 miles/19 km. Easy to  moderate terrain.

Day 6 Walk the coast path from Noss Mayo  to the Erme Estuary for overnight BB in nearby Holbeton. Easy then more challenging terrain. 10.3 miles/16.5 km. 

Day 7 Cross the Erme then walk the coast path from Wonwell Beach via Bigbury & Burgh Island, across the Avon Estuary to Hope Cove for overnight BB. 10.1 miles/16.2 km. Moderate then easy terrain.

Day 8 Walk the coast path from Hope Cove to Salcombe for overnight BB. 8.1  miles/13 km. Moderate terrain.

Day 9 Walk the coast path via Gara Rock, Prawle Point and Start Point  to Torcross for overnight BB. 13 miles/21 km. Moderate terrain with some challenging parts.

Day 10 Walk the coast path from Torcross to Dartmouth for overnight BB. 10.7 miles/17 km. Easy then moderate terrain.

Day 11 Walk the Dart Valley Trail from Dartmouth to Totnes for overnight BB. 13.4 miles/21.5 km. Moderate terrain.

Day 12 Depart Totnes.
